Assets and Issues
Throughout the Vision Workshops, community members identified numerous assets and issues, many of which are related to each other.
Assets

The spectacular physical setting of Laguna Beach, including the hillsides, beaches, coves and the ocean was mentioned most often as a community asset. People appreciate the easy access they have to these resources, in part because of the controlled approach to development the City has taken to preserving open space.
Many community members identified the cultural arts and the history of Laguna Beach as core assets that contribute to the much-appreciated small town, village character of the City and the "funky" homes and beach cottages.
The diversity of people living in Laguna Beach is also a strong community asset. Many believe the City?s active citizens and civic groups are committed to solving community problems and making a difference. In addition, people feel the easy access to government and the local decision making process is also an asset that allows citizen opinions to be heard and to effect change.
Finally, many people find the vibrant Downtown area with its unique shops and restaurants as well as the City?s pedestrian-scale of development to be assets. Many residents find the community to be friendly, welcoming and safe and to have excellent schools.
