One of three works by Jerry Rothman donated to the City of Laguna Beach by Kathleen Cummings. “Opal Flies Again’ is located in Heisler Park at the cross section of Myrtle and Cliff Drive. Jerry Rothman was a resident of Laguna Beach for 27 years and offered the works to the community “as a gratitude to the city.”

Jerry Rothman is considered a leading figure in post-World War II American ceramics. He has had a varied and substantial career, balancing the roles of sculpture, industrial designer, potter and teacher. His innovations revolutionized ceramic sculpture expanding the physical possibilities of ceramics to create and fire larger and more complex sculptures.
