Visually Celebrating the Community

Description

The City of Laguna Beach Banner Competition is a project of the Arts Commission. Artists are provided with banner material on which to paint original artwork. The completed banners are displayed in the City of Laguna Beach Council Chambers.

Eligibility

Entries will be accepted from residents of Laguna Beach. Proof will be required.

Entry Requirements

Please submit a color design that must be drawn to scale ( 3¾" x 11" ) of your banner. Bright colors are suggested, and a community celebration theme encouraged. Religious symbols are discouraged. The design must be painted on one side of the banner. Banners are not always the exact size. Allow in your design a variance of 10%. If you wish to have your design returned, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. All judging is done anonymously by the Arts Commission. For judging purposes please do not sign the front of your submitted design. You may submit a maximum of two designs.

If your design is selected you be provided with a vertical 3¾" x 12" banner which is made of acrilon. The banner must be painted with acrylics. One side must be painted. The artist's signature and date should be placed on the lower right corner.

Dates and deadlines

September 11 Prospective designs must be delivered to City Hall Recreation Department by 5:00 P.M.
September 11 Arts Commission will review and select the designs.
September 15 Selected artists will be notified to pick up the blank banners at the Recreation Department.
October 23 Completed banners are to be delivered to the City Hall Recreation Department.
November 7 Winners will be recognized at the City Council meeting.

How the judging takes place

The seven members of the City of Laguna Beach, Arts Commission (and on various occasions invited guests) judge designs anonymously for creativity and visual impact.

Compensation / Award

The completed banner and design becomes the property of Laguna Beach and will be displayed when and where the City of Laguna Beach desires. Cash awards will be given for all completed banners for the amount of $150.00

BANNER RECEIPT

I hereby acknowledge receipt of a banner material on which I will paint my original artwork. All banner artwork is the property of the City of Laguna Beach to be displayed when and where the City desires. I agree to return the completed banner to the Recreation Department on or before 5 p.m. on May 17, 1999.
