2010 Banner Competition
Description
The City of Laguna Beach Banner Competition is a project of the Arts Commission. Artists are provided with banner material on which to paint original art work. The completed banners are displayed on lampposts throughout the city of Laguna Beach during the June, July and August.
Eligibility
Entries will be accepted from residents of Orange County 18 years or older. Proof will be required.
Application Requirements
Please do not staple any materials together. All submitted materials must be typed on 8 x 11 paper. All pages of your application should clearly indicate your name, date, and the project submitting for.
Please submit the required materials in the following order:
- A color design drawn to scale ( 4 x 16 inches ) Bright colors are suggested. Religious symbols are discouraged. The banner is painted on both sides, if your design is not a mirror image, please submit the design for both front and back.
- Professional resume (maximum 2 pages)
- 3 photographs of previous related artwork

All judging is done anonymously by the Arts Commission. For judging purposes please do not sign the front of your submitted design. You may submit a maximum of two designs.

If your design is selected you will be provided with a vertical 4 x 16 feet banner which is made of acrilon. The banner may be painted with acrylics or oils. Both sides must be painted. The artist’s signature and date should be placed on the front right hand side. Remember that banners will be viewed from distances of 8 to 30 feet or more.
Dates and Deadlines
March 19, 2010 Prospective designs must be delivered to the Cultural Arts Department by 5 p.m.
March 22, 2010 Arts Commission will review and select the designs.
May 17, 2010 Completed banners are to be delivered to the Cultural Arts Department by 10 a.m.
How the judging takes place
The seven members of the City of Laguna Beach, Arts Commission (and on various occasions invited guests) judge designs anonymously for creativity and visual impact from a distance.
Honorarium
The completed banner and design becomes the property of the City of Laguna Beach and will be displayed when and where the City of Laguna Beach desires. It is the primary responsibility of the City of Laguna Beach to preserve and protect the collections under its management. The City of Laguna Beach Arts Commission may deaccess artwork in its collection using the guidelines established.
An honorarium of $2,000 will be given for all completed banners selected.
