Sponsored by the Brooks Street Surfing Classic organization and administered by the City of Laguna Beach Community Services Department, this annual surf contest is held a different weekend each year, depending on when the surf is forecast to be optimal. This event is open only to Laguna Beach residents, and features a variety of age divisions competing in short- and longboard, paddleboard, and bodyboard events.

The waiting period for the 56th running of the Brooks Street Classic will begin June 2019. Due to the nature of the event, registrations can only be taken at the contest, and can be paid with cash or check.
In addition to age division awards, contestants can also nominated for the Cy Chambers award for excellence in surfing, sportsmanship and academics, and the Thom Chambers award for excellence in surfing and the arts.
