The DARE Program
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program began
in 1983. In the beginning, the program was for fifth and sixth graders. The program was
such a success it was modified to include children in kindergarten and Jr. High School.
The highly trained DARE Officer is able to relate with the children and after a 17 week
program each student is presented with a graduation certificate. This program has proven
to yield a specific reduction in youngsters experimenting with drugs.

To contact the DARE Officer, call Detective Richard White at (949) 497-0368.
DARE is taught in the fifth grade at Top of the
World; El Morro; and Saint Catherine's School, January through June. A modified DARE
program is taught in the seventh grade at Thurston Middle School.
Throughout the year the DARE officer is invited to
special events at the schools. Special events include, but are not limited to:
- "Back To School Nights"
- "Open House"
- "Read Across America"
- School graduation ceremonies
- Large projects such as "Every 15 Minutes"
