Public Transit and Parking
The City of Laguna Beach is
unique in Orange County in that it is the only municipality that operates its
own transit system. Since 1970, the City of Laguna Beach has maintained and
operated a municipal transit system to meet the transportation needs of
residents and visitors alike and to reduce automobile travel and its impacts
within the community.
Laguna Beach Transit provides
intracommunity transportation services and augments the intercommunity services
and paratransit services provided by the Orange County Transportation Authority
(OCTA). Laguna Beach Transit provides four types or modes of service within the
City of Laguna Beach.
Mainline Service
The Mainline Service consists of three fixed
routes, operating six days a week, year round. There is no Mainline Service
on Sundays. The Gray route services Top of the World, Laguna Canyon and North
Laguna. The Blue route services Arch Beach Heights and Bluebird Canyon. The
Red route services Downtown to Ritz Carlton and back along Coast Highway.

Public Parking
The City maintains more than 2,300 parking
metered parking spaces in Laguna Beach including parking lots with meters or
ticket machines. The majority of the meters have two hour limits; there are
about 400 meters have four hour limits; 400 meters have ten hour limits; and
about 100 meters have 30 minute or one hour limits. Meters in the Central
Business District (Downtown) are primarily two hour meters with a scattering
of 30 minute meters near service-oriented businesses such as the Post Office
and dry cleaners. There are more than 800 metered spaces in the immediate
downtown area. Other areas were meters are located include Cliff Drive, from
the 500 block near Diver's Cove across Coast Highway to Broadway, Coast
Highway, Glenneyre Street, Broadway and Laguna Canyon Road.
Meter rates are $1.00 per hour or $0.25 for
each increment of 15 minutes. Hours of operation are generally Monday through
Sunday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Meters along Laguna Canyon Road/ Broadway are
enforced from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
To use a meter, users can pay
in cash or pay a fee to obtain a conditional permit. Cash paying users insert
the appropriate number of quarters required to pay for the amount of time they
anticipate occupying the space. Various permits allow qualified users to park
at meters without depositing coins into the meters. The three basic permit
types include Shopper’s, Residential and Business. For information on
eligibility, fees and restrictions for parking permits click here.
The City also maintains long
term parking lots. The Lumberyard and the City’s employees’ parking lots and
the Mermaid Garage are available on a daily or monthly basis. The Mermaid
Garage offers covered parking at $65 per month
and is fully let at this time. Parking is available during weekends and
evenings for $6. The Lumberyard parking lot, located adjacent to City Hall,
is generally 75 percent full for most of the year at $55 per month. During
the summer, the Lumberyard lot is typically full at $8 per day, Monday through
Friday, and $10 during weekends and evenings. The City employees’ lot is used
during the summer and for special events. Parking at private lots is also
available in the downtown area.
