Background
The Shaw’s Cove lift station was built in 1948 and served to collect and pump 40,000 gallons per day. It is located within 75 feet of the beach within a narrow ravine and is adjacent to the public access stairway serving the beach above the intersection of Fairview and Cliff Drive. This beach below the lift station is adjacent to the Heisler Park Area of Special Biological Significance. The new station is equipped with a new emergency generator which serves two lift stations, the wet well has additional retention storage, and a permanent vacuum line has been installed to ease cleaning operations. In addition, the new lift station was designed by an architect to be aesthetically pleasing.
Project Schedule and Beach Access
The project is scheduled to begin in September 2007 and finish in July 2008. Beach access will be kept open as much as possible during construction. When the construction cannot safely allow access to the beach, city staff will provide informational flyers to the neighborhood. |
