The Water Quality Department is always working toward improving our town by implementing on-the-ground solutions to water quality problems on the local and regional level. Below is information on select current, future and past projects administered by the Water Quality Department. See the proposed Capital Improvement Plan for the City's sewers.

SmartTimer/Edgescape Evaluation Project (SEEP) Replacement of landscaping and improvement of irrigation systems in Riddle Park
NCI Rehabilitation Project at Nyes Place Project completed.
Citywide main lining (5.5 miles) Completed; final phase of lining over 16 miles of sewer pipelines
Urban Runoff Diversion Structures Installation of five CDS units at locations around town. The construction is complete and the units are on-line.
Laguna SOCWA Odor Control Systems The installation of an odor control system at the Bluebird SOCWA lift station has proven highly effective in eliminating odors in the southern portion of the City. The same installation is planned at the Laguna SOCWA lift station to eliminate odors and corrosive conditions in the North Coast Interceptor in the area between City Hall and the Bluebird Lift Station at Glenneyre and Calliope.
Rehabilitation of 250 manholes Resurfacing and renovating manholes primarily in the Coast Highway
Irvine Cove Lift Station Generator Installation of emergency power facilities
Main Beach Lift Station Rehabilitation Improvements to be done concurrently with the Marine Safety Headquarters project.
Brooks Lift Station Portable Power Quick-Connect, Electrical Panel + Upgrades New control panel and upgrades to replace dilapidated electrical equipment.
Design NCI Alignment out of Aliso Creek Project to be coordinated with South Coast Water District’s Lift Station No. 2 Reconstruction. Plan includes using SCWD existing transmission main and abandoning NCI in Aliso Creek.
Rockledge Lift Station and Force Main Replace + Elect Upgrades Rehabilitate 1932 lift station.
Variable Frequency Drive Replacements @ Bluebird SOCWA LS No. 26 The Variable Frequency Drives are motor control devices that power the primary pumps at the Bluebird and Laguna SOCWA lift stations. They provide optimum power efficiencies to pump over 2 million gallons per day. The drives are well past their service lives and have reached obsolescence.
Variable Frequency Drive Replacements @ Laguna SOCWA LS No. 25
Rockledge Lift Station and Force Main Replace + Elect Upgrades The Rockledge lift station was built in 1932 and is still serviced by the original 4-inch cast iron force main. This station has far exceeded its service life and requires reconstruction of the force main and replacement of the electrical system.
