LAGUNA BEACH, Calif – June 10, 2026, 4:30 p.m. — Laguna Beach Marine Safety personnel and assisting agencies continue efforts to locate and recover the adolescent female who went missing in the ocean from Treasure Island Beach on the evening of June 9, 2026.

As previously reported, a mother and her two children were swept into the ocean by powerful surf conditions. Bystanders entered the water and successfully rescued the mother and one child. Two bystanders who assisted in the rescue were transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The City reports that both individuals have since been treated and released. Their actions undoubtedly prevented further loss of life.

Throughout the operation, search teams have covered the immediate area surrounding the incident, as well as an expanded search zone extending beyond the original last seen location. These efforts have been conducted under challenging ocean conditions, including large surf, powerful currents, and limited underwater visibility.

The dedicated search and recovery operation will continue through daylight hours. If no recovery is made before darkness falls and visibility is no longer sufficient to conduct search activities safely and effectively, the coordinated operation will be suspended.

While the dedicated search and recovery effort will conclude at that time, Laguna Beach Marine Safety personnel and partner agencies will continue to remain vigilant as part of their normal public safety operations. Lifeguards on patrol and other maritime agencies will continue to monitor local waters and shoreline areas while carrying out routine duties.
