LAGUNA BEACH, Calif – June 10, 2026, 9 p.m. — As of sunset on June 10, 2026, Laguna Beach Marine Safety personnel and assisting agencies have concluded the dedicated search and recovery operation for the adolescent female who went missing in the ocean from Treasure Island Beach on the evening of June 9, 2026.

Over the past 24 hours, lifeguards and partner agencies conducted an extensive search effort utilizing rescue watercraft, rescue boats, shore-based personnel, dive teams, aerial resources, and other specialized search assets. Search operations began in the immediate area where the victim was last seen and expanded outward along the coastline and offshore based on prevailing ocean conditions, currents, wave action, and search assessments.

Despite these efforts, search personnel were unable to locate the victim.

Beginning tomorrow, Laguna Beach Marine Safety personnel and partner agencies will transition from a dedicated search and recovery operation to ongoing monitoring of offshore and shoreline areas as part of their routine public safety duties. Lifeguards and other public safety partners will continue to remain vigilant while carrying out their normal operational responsibilities.

“This is one of the most heartbreaking incidents I have witnessed during my time serving this community,” said Mayor Mark Orgill. “Our hearts go out to the young victim’s family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss. On behalf of the Laguna Beach community, I extend our deepest condolences and want the family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers during this unimaginably difficult time.” 

The City also wishes to recognize the extraordinary efforts of the public safety personnel who participated in the search operation.
For more than 24 hours, lifeguards and partner agency personnel searched under challenging and hazardous ocean conditions, including large surf, powerful currents, and limited underwater visibility. Many of these men and women entered the same dangerous waters that contributed to this tragedy in an effort to locate the missing girl and provide answers to her family.

"I am incredibly proud of the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by our Marine Safety, Fire, and Police personnel, as well as every agency that assisted in this effort," said Mayor Mark Orgill. "These men and women put themselves in harm's way, entering the same dangerous ocean conditions in an attempt to bring this young girl home to her family. Their commitment over the past 24 hours has been nothing short of extraordinary, and our community owes them a tremendous debt of gratitude."

The City extends its sincere appreciation to the Orange County Sheriff's Department Harbor Patrol, the United States Coast Guard, and all assisting agencies that contributed personnel and resources throughout the operation.

The City of Laguna Beach extends its deepest sympathies to the victim's family, friends, and loved ones during this time of profound loss.
