The City of Laguna Beach is committed to providing prompt, courteous access to public records. All requests for documents will be reviewed and responded to within 10 days after receipt to determine whether the record(s) you have requested are subject to disclosure under the California Public Records Act (“PRA”). For convenience, provided here is a form to assist you in making your PRA request.
Please remember that the PRA requires the City to gather and produce already existing non-exempt public records that are within the City’s possession and control. However, the City is not required, and staff does not have the capacity, to create new records that don’t otherwise exist (such as performing a compilation of data or research for the requestor) in response to an individual PRA request.
Sometimes, especially in response to PRA requests for voluminous records, the City may take up to 14 additional days (for a total of 24 days) to consider your request. In other cases, we may release records on a “rolling” basis, meaning that we will release records as we gather them, and there may be other supplemental releases should we come across more responsive records during our search pursuant to your request.
After the City has determined whether responsive record(s) exist that are subject to disclosure, the City Clerk's office will let you know when to expect the records.
