Trees on City Property

The City of Laguna Beach inspects and maintains approximately 3,000 trees located within public parks, City owned property, and the public right of way.  This includes regular pruning to remove dead branches, providing the appropriate clearance to buildings or structures, and the removal of trees that are dead, diseased and/or deemed hazardous.  After a tree has been removed, a replacement tree is planted to maintain the City's urban canopy coverage.  To review the City's Tree Removal and Replacement Policy for Public Trees, to learn more about any public trees currently under evaluation for removal, or to report a new issue with a tree on City property, please use the links above.

City Arborist

The City Arborist’s role is a mix between conservation and preservation.  The Arborist is responsible for the long-term care and management of Laguna Beach’s urban forest.  This entails implementing annual tree inspections, maintenance, pruning, removal analysis, and pest management of city-maintained trees.  To maximize the benefits of a healthy urban forest, the City Arborist also utilizes strategic tree planting to expand the City’s urban canopy coverage.  Concurrently, through preservation efforts, the Arborist also manages the City's Open Space program in coordination with Fire Administration and non-profit preservation groups.  These tasks include but are not limited to risk mitigation through fire hazard reduction, tracking pest outbreaks, control of invasive species, habitat restoration, and preservation of the City's natural areas.
