Laguna Beach, CA
Home MenuRegulatory & Environmental Compliance
Much of what we do is regulated by the Federal government and the State of California including our Clean Water Compliance Programs, Water Quality Improvement Plan Development (WQIP) Laguna Beach's Local Implementation Plan (LIP/JRMP).
Runoff
We control runoff from City streets and hardscape to our storm drains. By law, Laguna Beach must:
- Adopt regulations to prevent polluted runoff.
- Implement programs that promote architectural features that reduce runoff from new development.
- Inspect existing developments and construction sites for runoff pollution.
- Educate the public on how to reduce runoff.
Diversion Units
We help protect Laguna Beach’s coastline and recreational ocean waters through the use of 25 diversion units located throughout the City. These units function like large strainers, capturing trash and debris from stormwater runoff before it can reach the ocean. Once collected, the diverted water is routed into the sewer system for proper treatment—hence the name "diversion units."
